Dimensional Analysis Test

Oh boy... where to start.

...This test was bad. First, I was working on so much AP Lang work that I didn't get ample time to study or review for it. 

Then, I show up to second hour, the bell rings, and I realize that I left my calculator in my locker .

I didn't think to ask Hamming to borrow one of his.

Following these events, I proceeded to take the test solving problems by hand and basically guessing answers based on how close they were to my answer... not a good strategy. I wish I could redo these past two weeks of school. School is really wearing me down.

Measurement and Conversion

After the lovely Mrs. Frankenberg's lesson on measurement conversion, I was astounded at how easy it actually was to do. If only I had known how to do this during linear and angular speed in the beginning of trigonometry this year... 

Anyways, this information has been more helpful than I could have imagined... I actually used it on a standardized test from The College Board today (I can't say which one because they threaten invalidation of my test scores, Yikes!)

The due date for the last meal project is coming up, and I am ultra excited to bring these skills to good use and also to bring food to eat, because that and sleep are basically all that high school students care about. 

I am hoping that equivalent measurements are easy numbers to work with food-wise... as in, I hope it isn't as difficult to memorize as 5,280 feet in 1 mile.

Sig Fig Newtons

Significant figures (abbreviated sig. figs.) are used to round numbers, solve problems, and determine what decimal place number an answer can be rounded to to accurately represent a measurement. 



They are extremely difficult, but luckily with the help of the internet, I have been able to learn the ins and outs of them. I will highlight the main rules below.

1. 0's sandwiched between integers are significant
2. All nonzero numbers are significant
3. If there is no decimal point, all zeros preceding or following an integer are insignificant.
4. All zeros preceding an integer are insignificant
5. If there is a decimal, zeros to the right of the decimal point are significant
6. In problems, an answer can only be rounded to the place of the least number of sig figs in the problem. (if there is a number with 2 sig figs and a number with 3, you can only round to 2 places)

Mole Day!

October 23? Mole Day? PARTY! 

What better reason to party in a chemistry class than to celebrate the establishment of a unit of measurement that we will use in chemistry?

I am looking forward to learning about Molar Mass in the future. 

Besides making stuffed moles and eating people's food, Mole Day is celebrated to commemorate the work of Amadeo Avagadro, the creator of Avagadros number, used in masses. The number is 
 Six and two hundreths times ten to the twenty-third power.
